CAAAS Intention to Support Form
Center for African and African American Studies, colloquially known as the Cause
“Black students have historically been underrepresented at the University of Colorado Boulder. Recruitment and retention rates of Black students are among the lowest of all minority groups at CU Boulder. This is because of the lack of adequate systems to support Black students on campus. This has created a sense of isolation, alienation, among Black students and a lack of a sense of community. The Center for African and African American Studies (CAAAS) will alleviate the generational hardships Black students have to face at CU, who have never had a space exclusively cultivated for Black communities. The CAAAS will serve as both research and student service space for Black community members.”
-Audrea Fryar
CU Boulder students Audrea Fryar, Ruth Woldemichael and Karia White authored and are circulating a letter calling for support of the development of CAAAS:
